Florida Residence Learn the Difference Between Soft Wash and Power Wash
Florida is a great place to live. What is not to like with all the sun and the beaches? The downside of the humidity is it’s also a great environment for moss, algae, and mold to grow. And, it grows everywhere, including the exterior of your home. With either soft or power washing, the team at Elite Power Washing can help you keep your home looking fresh and new.
What is Soft Washing?
Soft washing is a way to clean the algae, moss, debris, and dirt from the exterior of your home. A low-pressure soft washing is combined with chemicals to clean the exterior of your home. The pressure is low enough you can hold your hand in front of the sprayer nozzle, and not get hurt.
The chemicals used have inhibitors that discourage the moss, algae, and mold from growing back, extending the time between needing cleanings.
What is Power Washing?
Power washing uses hot water and a high-pressure washing system to clean your home. The pressure is high enough that if your hand or foot gets in front of the nozzle you can do serious injury to yourself. Again, chemicals can be used to help with the cleaning if desired.
Power washing uses a much higher water pressure and can be used to strip and clean debris, paint, and old finishes off the wood.
How Often Does My House need to be Cleaned?
Generally speaking, the exterior of your home needs to be cleaned every two years. Keeping the exterior clean is one of the least expensive home improvement projects that can be done. In addition, it keeps mold off your home, which can become a respiratory issue for young children and older people.
So Which Is Better?
Well, there is no one perfect answer. It all depends on what your needs and concerns are.
- The first thing to consider is whether anyone in your home is sensitive or allergic to chemicals. Also, if your home has plants, shrubs or landscaping that are sensitive to chemicals, the soft washing or a power wash with chemicals may not be a good option.
- What are the materials to be cleaned? If your home has a wood exterior, a power washing can remove the paint and damage the wood if too much pressure is applied. If you have a brick exterior a power washing can take the finish off the bricks and even remove the mortar that is aging and coming loose. However, if the roof of your home needs cleaning, many producers of shingles will void your warranty if a power washing has been applied.
- Are you looking to make something pretty? Or preparing a project for refurbishing? If you are looking to clean the exterior of your home, a soft washing will bring back the beauty of your home. If you are getting your deck ready for new paint or waterproofing a power washing is the only washing to strip the wood clean enough.
So there are no easy answers. With either of the systems, they can effectively clean homes three stories high without requiring ladders, which makes either process much safer. And with either system, the exterior of your home will be brought back to its new beauty in just a matter of a few hours.
